Deaf children have been misunderstood in Italy for a very long time. Many years ago, they were deemed incapable of learning how to read and write. Once it was discovered that deaf children could perform at the same level as hearing children, various systems were devised to achieve this objective. All of these systems were missing a basic but vital component to ensure the successful growth of deaf children – a deaf teacher for the deaf students. Deaf teachers make excellent educators and effective role models. |
